Julio Bermudez

Founder & Executive Director

As a first-generation Honduran-American, Julio understands the unique challenges faced by immigrants navigating a new culture, language, and system. He has personally encountered language barriers, limited access to resources, and the complexities of integrating into a new community. These experiences fueled his desire to create Raices Nuevas, an organization dedicated to empowering Garifuna youth and families to thrive in New Orleans.

Julio's leadership is grounded in empathy, resilience, and a deep understanding of the transformative power of community. He is also passionate about building global relationships and has traveled extensively to connect with and learn from diverse cultures. He believes that by providing Garifuna youth with the tools and resources they need to succeed, Raíces Nuevas can create a ripple effect that strengthens families, builds community, and contributes to a more just and equitable society.
